Plant a Seed, Watch it Grow:
A Web Guide for School Gardens
Master Gardener Association of San Diego County
Welcome to Plant a Seed, Watch it Grow, an online guide developed by the School Garden Committee of the Master Gardeners Association of San Diego County to help you plan, design, and maintain a school garden. It will guide you from learning how school gardens benefit students to integrating curriculum with outdoor, hands-on experiences.
For those new to school gardening, we have arranged the information in sequential order – from building enthusiasm for a school garden, to creating the garden, choosing what to plant, maintenance, and pest control. Throughout the guide you will find many links to valuable resources. We also included a section to guide teachers as they plan to integrate garden activities into the curriculum.
Those who are more experienced may want to use the guide as a reference. You will be able to use the drop down menu to access details about more specialized information on topics such as building raised beds, improving the soil, or greenhouses and hydroponics.
