Once a year, timed with bare-root rose season here, the San Diego Rose Society hosts a pruning demonstration at the Inez Parker Rose Garden in Balboa Park. In 2012, the free event is set for Jan. 7. Rose experts will demonstrate proper pruning and then attendees get to try their hand. Bring gloves and pruning shears to participate. Details are at www.sdrosesociety.org.
