The Master Gardener Annual Plant Sale
is a Gardener's Delight
Looking for interesting, healthy plants at affordable prices?
Bargain plants – and more – await shoppers at the annual Master Gardener Plant Sale Saturday, June 19, in Room 101 of Casa del Prado in Balboa Park. Sale hours are 10 a.m until 3p.m.
Would you like to grow succulents? Or enlarge your succulent collection? We'll have hundreds for sale. And if you want to know how to grow them, ask one of the many Master Gardeners on hand who are happy to answer questions.
The same is true for other plants on sale - vegetable and herb plants, banana trees, bromeliads, rare sages, staghorn ferns, waterwise perennials and flowering annuals, to name a few grown by Master Gardeners or donated by local specialty nurseries and growers. Master Gardeners can help you pick the right plants for your garden and offer tips for their care.
Download a printable coupon for 20 percent off your purchase of one full-priced plant.
Birdhouses handcrafted by Master Gardeners also will be on sale. Available in a variety of sizes and styles, they are stylish additions to any garden. If you’d like to learn more about attracting birds, butterflies and other wildlife to your garden, Master Gardeners will be happy to help.
Other items for sale include sleeve-protecting gauntlets (to wear while pruning roses and other thorny plants) , also handcrafted by Master Gardeners and floral note cards. (Please note: the coupon does not apply to these items or birdhouses.)
Master Gardeners also will staff exhibits, located on the Casa del Prado patio, to help you make your garden thrive. There will be information on
- Ways to protect your garden plants from destructive insects without harming the beneficial insects or the environment.
- Landscaping tips to help protect your home from wildfires.
- Composting how-tos and trouble-shooting.
- Vegetable garden planting guide for San Diego County. (No, it's not too late to plant warm-season veggies.)
- Citrus and avocado tree care.
- Sustainable gardening and other “green” practices.
- Waterwise gardening advice, including drought-tolerant plants and irrigation management.
We'll also have an always popular "Ask A Master Gardener" booth where MGs will answer any questions concerning home gardening and pest management.
Plant and other purchases must be paid with cash or check only. Proceeds benefit Master Gardeners’ educational programs throughout the county.
Shoppers are urged to take advantage of free parking in Balboa Park and free tram service to the sale. Click here for lots and tram stops.
