Session 2 will give you all you ever wanted to know about being a Master Gardener, and then some. You will hear so much about so much that you may wonder if your head will explode. It’s true. But it’s also true that it will eventually make sense. Please try to just open your mind and let it in and don’t worry that you don’t get it all. You will, we swear!

Housekeeping

Session 2 will be held in Building 5500, Room 120 (The Training Room). This was the room where you picked up your book and got fingerprinted. The room will be open by 8:15 AM. There is assigned seating… it’s fun to see where we place you every week!

We’ll start promptly at 8:30. Bring your book to this first session.

Session 2 Overview

Leah Taylor, MG Program Coordinator, will present an Overview of the Cooperative Extension (UCCE) University of California Master Gardener Program.

Members of our Class Ops Team, will be there to present an overview of our program, our responsibilities and your responsibilities.

You will have an opportunity to meet most of our Master Gardener Association of San Diego County (MGASDC) Board Members, other members of the Ops Team, and the Selection Committee at lunch.

LUNCH

We will be treated to a Yummy Lunch hosted by our board. We think (hope) we have everyone’s tastes covered, but if there is something you can’t live without, please bring it. Good food with good company. It’s an MG thing.

And then…

More information! In addition to introducing yourselves, you’ll have an introduction to the Training Website, the Volunteer Management System (VMS), and Quizzes.

Assignments

Just one assignment for this week. Read Chapter 1 in your Handbook.

The Good, the Bad, and the Bugly

Each week (almost) you’ll learn about another garden insect. Some are friends and some are foes. Does this week’s selection look familiar?
