We are looking for a few good gardeners…

Thank you for your interest in the University of California Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Program. We are accepting applications until October 2, 2017 for the next training course, which will begin in January 2018.

Please review the following FAQ before filling out an application:

We are seeking adults in San Diego County who love to grow plants, want to learn more about horticulture, and have the time and desire to help educate others. Inherent in the title "Master Gardener" (MG) lies the challenge to continue learning and to help other gardeners grow.

If you're up for the challenge and you'd like to join us, we are a fun and diverse group, and we come from all parts of the county.  In order to strengthen our program and better serve our community, this year we are particularly seeking more applicants who can serve the coastal South County and inland North County populations. Also, we encourage bilingual applicants, especially those who speak Spanish.

Master Gardeners in Training embark on a 64-hour program of 18 classes over a six-month period beginning in January 2018. After graduation, each new MG must volunteer at least 50 hours to public education activities during the first year, helping to educate the public, and answering questions on home gardening and pest management.

After the first year, MGs are recertified annually after volunteering 25 hours and taking 12 hours of continuing education.

If you believe you are a qualified applicant, we strongly encourage you to attend the Information Orientation on Wednesday, September 13 at 10:00 a.m. to learn more about the training and volunteer activities of the Master Gardener Association. Please RSVP HERE.

There are two versions of the application:

This PDF document is designed for you to download and complete directly within Adobe Acrobat Reader.

This Microsoft Word document is designed for you to download and complete with Word.

In either case you can save the information on the form and return to the saved file as often as you wish. Either application can be printed and mailed or emailed as noted in the FAQ.
